Thanks to our volunteers –
Another huge shout out to the volunteers that came down to the club on Thursday and Friday last week and Tuesday this week.
On Wednesday afternoon, the extremely high winds took down a tree in front of the 11th tee which subsequently took down the power pole and severely damaged the wires all the way to the maintenance shed. There were wires hanging down along the way with some touching the ground, one in the bunker next to the 11th green and one hanging slightly in the water in the stream. It was a highly dangerous area and we appreciate the understanding of those golfers playing in the competition on Wednesday afternoon who were asked to finish their round due to the dangerous conditions and high risk. The winds also took out a number of trees (even uprooting some!) and left the course in a big mess!
Our volunteer team have been able to gather fallen branches, trim damaged trees to minimise the amount of “hanging” debris and ensure a safe golf course is available to our members, guests and visitors. The clean-up work will continue over the coming weeks. Thank you to the following who have helped out with the clean up so far, guided by Course Superintendent Anthony Burrows – Alan Smith, Ross Allison, Peter Ashdown, Ian Main, David Hepher, Brent Saunders, Gary Dayman, Glenn White, Colin Peters, Janie Reynolds and thanks to Michael Jackson for walking and surveying the course to assess the potential risky branches in the trees. We really appreciate your efforts.
There are some loose branches wedged into other branches high up some of the trees on the back nine. To ensure safety of our members, guests and visitors, these trees have been marked with a white x and relief must be taken if your ball finishes up under one. The local rule is in the Pro Shop when you play the next round and will remain until the branches can be cleared.
Adam Page 70/80’s Rock n Roll Night – This Saturday 19 June!
The 70’s and 80’s inspired Rock n Roll night with Adam Page is being held at Riverside Golf Club this Saturday 19 June. The night will be kicking off at 6:30pm and your $50 ticket includes a 2-course carvery (3 meats, stir-fry vegetables and salads, plus dessert) and the show. Warm up those dancing shoes – bookings are closing tomorrow (and are essential). If you haven’t seen Adam perform before, don’t miss out this time as it is always a great night!
Meet the Maker Wine Dinner -Moores Hill Estate – Thursday 8 July
The next Riverside Golf Club’s “Meet the Maker” wine dinner will feature Moores Hill Estate.
Operated by husband & wife team Julian Allport and Fiona Weller, Moores Hill is home to Tasmania’s first 100% off the grid winery. Their wines are estate grown, made & bottled and powered by the sun.
Tickets are $85 pp which includes a four-course meal and six matching wines. Bookings can be made by contacting the Club on 6327 3312.
Food Honesty Box
It has come to my attention that there have been some significant discrepancies lately with the food honesty box system provided by Michael in the restaurant. If you are hungry and take a pie, pastie or sausage roll from the oven, or a roll or sandwich from the fridge, please ensure that you pay the correct amount for your product by placing it in the blue tin. If you don’t have any small change or would like to use your EFTPOS card, speak to one of our staff and we can put it through for you. The honesty system gives the club a way to provide food for our members during the week and I am disappointed to hear that some members might be taking liberties.
Play 9 – 2021
Play 9 is coming again in 2021.
The competition is in its 5th year and since its inception the number of 9-hole rounds has increased dramatically.
Event qualification is open from 1 June to 15 November and the 2021 event puts players into a draw for a chance to attend either their state final, or directly to the national final, each time they contest a 9-hole competition within the qualifying period, which is processed via GolfLink.
A player may play as many 9-hole competitions as they like during the period and each 9-hole round counts as one entry into the competition.
Each qualifier will receive an email from Golf Australia once the 9-hole competition score is submitted. This advises them of their entry into the competition, and they may choose to opt out of the competition at this time should they not wish to progress. Only those players who have agreed to receive Golf Australia communications are eligible for the competition, therefore it is important that qualifiers have a Golf Australia account and have selected the tick box to receive offers and promotions.
At the end of the qualification period two men and two women from each state and territory will progress to the national final either via a state final or via a random draw, depending on the state or territory. Please visit www.golf.org.au/play9 to view the process for each state and NT.
The four players to attend the national final will receive the following at no cost:
- Return flights to the national final from their nearest major city.
- Two nights’ accommodation.
- $200 local meal and transport allowance.
- Attendance at the 2021 Play 9 function.
- A player gift pack.
- Tickets to a major golf event over the summer of 2021-22 held in conjunction with the Play 9 national final.
Good luck to all Riverside Golf Club members that participate in any 9-hole competition – we have had a few members over the years make it to the finals, so we hope we can have a few more this year!
Footy Tipping 2021 – with Ian Main: Round 12
What a crazy weekend of results. Mark Poulson was the only one to pick the Hawks; Eagles and Crows just fell in; the Kangaroos and Giants couldn’t make up their mind who was best; and the Magpies did it for Bucks. So everyone got a point for the drawn game and 3 or 4 was a normal number of wins. Won’t say who only got the point for the draw. Master tipper is very close between 5 or 6 people. Full position in that competition after Round 15.
And what a great result for Big Freeze 7 and MND Research!
The list below shows the first game in the next 2 rounds ie. the margin game
Week 14 Eagles vs Tigers
Week 15 Lions vs Cats
Round 16 hasn’t been finalised yet.
So to the winners
- 1st – Ian Main – 5 out of 7 and nearest margin – $34
- 2nd – Mark Poulson – 5 out of 7 – $14
- Equal 3rd – Len Healey and Doug Mcloughlin – 4 out of 7 and nearest margin – $4.50 each
How about having a go at tipping each week? Anyone can go in it. Just $2 an entry.
